CDDW 2027

Sustainability

Sustainability is a core part of how we design and deliver CDDW™. As a sustainable conference, we consider how every element of planning and operations can reduce environmental impact, conserve resources, and support healthier outcomes for both people and the planet. This includes choices about materials, energy use, transportation, waste reduction, digital tools and the partners we work with. By integrating sustainability into the foundation of the conference, we aim to demonstrate leadership within the Canadian gastroenterology community and contribute to a more responsible and resilient future for medical events.

As CDDW™ transitions into a standalone conference, we are strengthening our commitment to sustainability. Our goal is to create an exceptional experience for attendees while reducing our footprint, improving operational efficiency and encouraging our community to take part in achievable, meaningful sustainability actions.

Building on Progress
from 2025 and 2026

Previous CDDW™ conferences in 2025 and 2026 introduced several sustainability practices that set the stage for the expanded approach we are taking in 2027. These efforts showed that responsible event delivery can be practical, effective and aligned with a high-quality experiences.

Our approach

We focus on practical, measurable actions that reduce environmental impact and support long-term sustainability within our conferences and healthcare sectors.

Our approach is guided by three principles:

Reduce

waste and resource consumption

Optimize

operational
efficiency

Encourage

sustainable choices across our community

What we are doing

Reducing waste

We aim to minimize waste generated throughout the event by:

  • Limiting printed materials and prioritizing digital formats
  • Reducing single-use items wherever possible
  • Providing plant-forward meals that are satisfying and have limited environmental impact
  • Working with the venue to support recycling and waste diversion

Designing smarter experiences

CDDW™ 2027 is designed to be both impactful and efficient:

  • Digital-first communications and program access
  • Streamlined signage and materials
  • Thoughtful planning to reduce unnecessary production

Partnering responsibly

We collaborate with venues, suppliers, and partners who share our commitment to sustainability by:

  • Prioritizing local sourcing where possible
  • Selecting partners with responsible environmental practices
  • Encouraging exhibitors to adopt sustainable booth solutions

Supporting attendee choices

We encourage all participants to contribute by:

  • Using digital materials instead of printed copies
  • Bringing their own reusable water bottle or reusable coffee mug
  • Making environmentally conscious travel and accommodation decisions where possible

Looking ahead

Sustainability is an ongoing process. As CDDW™ evolves, we will continue to identify opportunities to improve our practices and reduce our environmental impact year over year.

We are committed to building a more sustainable future for the Canadian gastroenterology community together.
